IDENTITY AND PRINCIPLES
RHEA is an independent platform for interdisciplinary artistic explorations, focused mainly on performing arts and film.
We are an interdisciplinary group with a feminist and interactional approach, formed of actresses, playwrights, and film directors from Romania. We support both experimental and popular artistic expression.

A multidisciplinary feminist platform
We intend for our artistic projects to open the path to social dialogue on topics relevant to contemporary society. Furthermore, we address topics relevant to female audiences and provide a workspace especially for female artists and professionals with whom we share common values.

RUXANDRA SIMION
Ruxandra Simion is a playwright, cultural manager and co-founder of Rhea.
The theatre plays, opera librettos, dramaturgical games, and performances she has created explore themes such as climate change, labour and migration, urban housing issues, the prison system, and the intersection of class and gender.
She also frequently uses theatre as a tool for cultural intervention and education, working with the methods of Theatre of the Oppressed. She has curatorial experience and has been active in Bucharest’s independent cultural sector since 2021, working as a project manager.
ANCA MUNTEANU
Anca Munteanu is a film and theatre actress, playwright, and co-founder of Rhea.
She made her film debut in Teambuilding and was nominated for a Gopo Award in the Young Hope category for her role in the short film Berliner Kindl, directed by Lucia Chicoș.
Her first play, Nuntă în Oaș, was directed by Cristian Ban at Teatrul de Nord Satu Mare. Her play Când eram mică voiam să fiu sfântă was selected for Eurodram 2026. As a playwright, she has participated in residencies including Drama5, Macaz’s School of Political Theatre, and the Contemporary Playwriting Laboratory at Teatrul Mic.
CRISTINA ILIESCU
Cristina Iliescu is a filmmaker, PhD candidate, and co-founder of Rhea.
Her short films have been screened at film festivals across Europe. She is an alumna of Nouvelle Bug, Sarajevo Talents, HFF München Summer School 2024, and MunichFilmUP! 2024–25.
She was nominated for the Young Hope category at the Gopo Awards. Her debut film won the National Competition at BIEFF in 2022; a year later, her second short film, A Flat is Born, won the Best Visual Concept award at the same festival and was nominated for a Gopo Award.
